Content marketing and search engine optimization (SEO) are all about building your audience, or getting more qualified eyes reading your stuff and engaging with you and your company. Writing compelling content that provides the reader with something uniquely valuable AND optimizing the content so that it can be found for relevant queries in the search engines is a delicate balancing act.

Managing a content marketing campaign as a small business owner or solopreneur can be difficult. It’s never a good feeling when you write an awesome piece of content, publish it, then a week later you find that only a few people have read it.

If this has ever happened to you, I feel your pain. It stings.

There’s good news though. Here are three tools that you can use to build your audience and generate more results through your content marketing and SEO immediately.

build your audience

1. Constant Contact

Running a business means that you have customers, and you have to stay in touch with your customers on a regular basis to keep them engaged.

One of the best ways to do that is with a weekly/monthly email newsletter. Think about it. How many times do you check your email every day? It’s often the first thing you do when you wake up and the last things you do before going to bed.

This habitual checking makes email marketing of the easiest and most effective ways to alert your customers of company news, specials, promotions, events, and other items, all at once. You should add social sharing buttons to your newsletters allowing your subscribers to easily share your news with their respective networks, effectively building your audience!

Constant Contact offers an awesome email marketing software tool that allows you to easily build beautiful email newsletters. They have thousands of templates for you to choose from. They also have some powerful social media integration, analytics, and survey features that keep you up to date on your dedicated audience without taking up too much of your time.

2. Hootsuite

More and more people are actively reading and posting on social media outlets like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. It makes sense that the need for building your audience via social media marketing is growing rapidly. Never underestimate the power of a retweet from one of your industry’s top influencers. Something like that can put your brand and content in front of thousands of qualified eyes, building your audience in a heartbeat.

You may already be active on social media. If you’ve never used a tool like Hootsuite, you probably know from experience that you’re always having to switch from one account to the next, just to post the same info. This means your efforts can, and will, quickly become disorganized, disjointed, time-consuming, and ineffective.

That’s no way to build your audience.

Hootsuite allows you to hook up all of your social media accounts into one aggregate, and easily post and monitor social activity across them all. You can even save time by scheduling posts in advance during the times you know your target audience is most active.

Social media marketing with Hootsuite is a great way to engage and collaborate with your audience on a day to day basis!

3. BoostSuite

If you have a website, an email newsletter, and social media accounts, you have to constantly publish website content and promote said content to build your audience and drum up new business. This is the content marketing process that we’re all familiar with. Traditionally this has taken small business owners and solopreneurs a lot of time to do effectively.

To make things harder, you usually have to work on your marketing all by yourself; a tactic that just doesn’t work.

Besides actually writing your blog articles, newsletters, social media posts, and other nuggets of knowledge, one of the toughest things about content marketing is figuring out what topics to write about that will engage and bolster your audience.

BoostSuite analyzes your website’s marketing strategy, identifies your most opportunistic keywords, helps you fix on-page SEO errors, optimizes your conversion funnel, and allows you to collaborate with 15,000+ other small business marketers to collectively increase your online authority. Doing things together is a lot easier than doing it yourself. Wouldn’t you agree?

There are a lot of other stellar marketing tools out there that can be used to build your audience. Which tools are you using that have been most successful at sending more unique visitors to your website?
